About Gingko Week

Okay.
In the sudden wave of reactions, flames and general ill-feeling, noise and mess which have arisen surrounding the banners for Gingko Week, I find myself in the need of posting a little bit of something of my own.

Mostly because since yesterday more and more misconceptions and accusations have sprung up than you can shake a stick at.

This morning I vowed to just ignore it. I knew why I put that banner there and I didn't care WHAT anybody said. But things have gotten so nasty that I'm starting to feel a distinct need to wash my hands of the whole business.

One idea was to simply remove the banner and my name from the list explaining the event.

But at this late date that didn't seem quite right and besides, my original reasons for putting up that banner still seem plenty valid to me and have nothing to do with the squalid details of the apparent flame-war which supposedly "inspired" this whole thing.

So, without further ado ...
I put up that banner there 'cause according to the explanation which Sandra put up, it was about celebrating a person who exemplified the creative spirit. I was vaguely familiar with Gingko's site before, but have never been a regular visitor. Hence I did not feel that most of the banners expressed correctly that which I wished to express, which is: delight and respect for this woman's ability to artfully design images.

Therefore, that there banner you see talks about "art and beauty" and that's what it's there for.

For me, there were no sides, there was no war, this was not about drawing lines or throwing mud, and it definitely was not about making the other person involved feel bad in any way.

I was under the impression that this was about recognizing artistic acheivement and yeah, I wanted to be a part of that because I have felt/feel moved by the imagery and lyrical quality of Gingko's site.

However, people are telling me that this is not what the banners are about and I don't like what they are saying it's all about.

If what Gabby and Gus and others say is what this is really what it's about, then no, this is not something I would want to be associated with.

But then again, those of you who read here regularly should know me well enough by now that I'm just not that kind of person.

So. In honor of the creative spark ...
Go look at any one of these:
gingko, soulflare, the fray, terrapin dream, or obscura and heck ... you could even go look at one of mine ...

and then go make something beautiful of your own ... 'cause inspiration's what this is all about for me ...
