Where do we come from? Why are we here? Are we alone? Does God exist? Are there 'higher beings' out there?

These are all questions which are floating in my mind after going to see Contact this afternoon. This is the best film I've seen all summer, it's visually stunning, and meaningful across the board. It asks a lot of hard questions and leaves you pondering the state of humanity afterward, while leaving you just enough hope for our race.

I must say that though I enjoyed the movie, it also disturbed me greatly and left me in a brief state of turmoil. In fact in made me cry with longing, because going to the stars has been something I've dreamed about for a long time. But somehow I never thought of making that desire into a concrete career path. I didn't take all the science and math that are required to make an astronomer, nor did I ever try to attain the physical fitness required to be a pilot.

Yet my mind quests for the answers to those questions, rolls them over and over.

My eyes turn to the skies and I wonder, over and over again, if there are others out there, looking up at other stars wondering too.
